Indians have been America's most economically successful major immigrant group in recent years. Yet Trump may still roll out policies that target Indian workers: L-1s (25%), OPT (50%), H-1Bs (75%), & H-4 spouses (100%). Why push away entrepreneurial, successful future Americans?

This helped pave the way for the massive increase in US tech productivity. Unfortunately, Congress did not increase green cards sufficiently to meet the supply of workers, so many Indians will die waiting for the permanent residence they were promised

To clarify, consular officers were denying Indians because they deemed them to have "immigrant intent" (the desire to remain permanently in the U.S.). The new H-1B visa allowed them to have "dual intent": intention to return home if necessary but a desire to stay permanently too

Today I learned that in 1989, ~80% of all H-1 visa applicants from India were denied. 80%! Today, the number is ~2%. The Immigration Act of 1990 stopped the denials by letting H-1Bs pursue both temporary & permanent residence. As a result, it made American tech what it is today

There are now over 1 million people stuck in the green card queue for workers & their families. Not because of govt delays, but because of irrational limits that Congress hasn't raised since 1990. Kudos to @David_J_Bier @CatoInstitute ; great FOIA work! 1/

Even if they all could stay in line legally, hundreds of thousands would die without getting a green card. A majority of skilled Indians in line already will not receive a green card. Very few new applicants would.
