Ten years ago today, the Supreme Court issued its ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, striking down limits on independent political spending. Probably the most misunderstood case in modern legal history, Citizens United simply doesn’t stand for what many people say it does.

Rush drummer Neil Peart passed away last week. He was regarded as one of the best rock drummers of all time, and Rush carved out a unique place in music overlapping heavy metal and progressive rock. Peart was not a full-fledged libertarian, but many of his songs were influenced by "the genius of Ayn Rand.”

The number of European countries with a Warren-style wealth tax has fallen from 12 in 1990 to just 3 today because wealth taxes simply encouraged avoidance, evasion, and capital flight. In most countries, wealth taxes raised little revenue and became riddled with exemptions.

As president, President Trump has now issued more executive orders than President Obama, of the infamous “phone and a pen,” did over the same period. He has asserted the power to redirect congressionally appropriated funds, wage war, and ignore subpoenas. Rhetorically, Democrats have loudly criticized this latest iteration of the imperial presidency. Yet, out on the campaign trail, the Democratic presidential aspirants have been quick to embrace a view of almost unlimited presidential power.

President Trump’s decision to target Iranian General Qassim Suleimani—a figure described as the Iranian equivalent of “an American Vice President, chairman of the Joint Chiefs and CIA director rolled into one”—marked the first time an American president has publicly ordered the assassination of a top government official for a country we’re not legally at war with.
