This is a crisis entirely of Trump's making. Every bomb dropped, every drop of blood spilled, every life lost will have their genesis in Trump's withdrawal from the nuclear deal. US special forces are in 149 countries. As we saw after 4 troops were killed in action in Niger in 2017, most members of Congress don't even know where the US military is operating. I'd like to hear a 2020 candidate pledge to bring the troops home, and not just from Afghanistan.
