First Law Of Political Discourse: when someone calls for compromise they invariably mean “give up on your principles and adopt my agenda.” Idea Brexiteers haven’t shown compromise in this whole process is absurd. The uncompromising block are those unwilling to deliver Brexit.

The idea customs union a solution to the backstop problem is so perverse. A customs union *is* the backstop problem. It impairs Britain's trade policy. As I've said before, saying CU a solution to backstop like saying a solution to indefinite impairment of your leg is amputation

It does make me laugh when people say being in a customs union "solves the backstop problem." For a lot of MPs, the fact the backstop is a customs union **is the problem.**
